Launceston based Whalebone is a three piece punk-pop ensemble comprised of Ben (vocals/guitar), Angi (bass/vocals) and Justin (drums/vocals). All members have been playing since September 1995.
Whalebone evolved when the trio met at the University of Tasmania art school in Launceston and since the bands conception have covered Tasmania with their original catchy tunes.
Whalebone were chosen in 1996 as the Tasmanian representatives for the NAD Campus Band Competition in Canberra.
March 1997 saw Whalebone win an Arts Tasmania grant to tour N.S.W and valuable contacts and responses were established throughout the live season.
Whalebone have supported the likes of Spiderbait, The Hoodoo Gurus, Jebediah, The Superjesus, Def FX, Snout , Sidewinder, Screamfeeder as well as playing the 1997 and 1998 Basin Concerts alongside many other mainland acts.
Whalebone's song "Red Seahorse" features on a compilation CD of Australian campus bands and their song "Mission" has been selected to go on Apple Slice 3, a Tasmanian original music compilation CD. Their own eleven track CD "Mission" has recently been released around the state and is currently enjoying local airplay on AM and FM stations.
Late 1988 will see Whalebone on a promotional tour for "Mission" playing not only their favourite Tasmanian locations but also into a broader mainland tour later in the year.
